Please Stand By by Emily Rennie

Don't forget, lovely listeners: if there's nothing to feel, then there's nothing to fear!'

Number one fan, Eva Jeong, adores her daily routine. She wakes up bright and early, texts her twin sister, and watches The Lifetime Lila Show

on her black-and-white television in her little pink bungalow. She's perfectly happy.

Charming television host, Lila, is a beacon of hope for the British public. Nobody else can look after an entire nation with such charm and grace from morning to night!

Except the idyllic life Eva cares for so deeply will soon be disrupted by a simple knock on the door. Lila's warm, welcoming smile suddenly doesn't feel as safe as it did before.

What is everyone hiding from Eva - and what is Eva hiding from?

Editor’s Note…

Emily Rennie, Please Stand By, is a psychological thriller which explores relationships, trauma, themes of LGBTQ+ and hope, all whilst taking the reader on a journey of suspense and a sense of eeriness that will keep the reader on the edge of their seat.

Each character is fleshed out enough that the reader cant help but love them or love to hate them. In some way, whilst the reader may enjoy their protagonist Eva, our author Emily Rennie cleverly creates a tickle of distrust in her that only grows as the reader turns each page.

The twists and turns and the pounding boom in the readers heart, when questions are answered or perhaps unanswered is how this book grabs the reader without mercy until the very end.

The question this book screams throughout is WHY! but don’t worry readers, Emily Rennie has definetly left us satisfied.

The manuscript for Please Stand By arrived in my inbox as a raw draft of about 7 chapters. Now it stands proudly on the shelves of stores such as Waterstones and Amazon. I am sure Emily Rennie must be celebrating and planning the book launch party as we speak.

The editor to author relationship is an incredibly important one. whether it be a developmental edit, or a proofread, the editor stands between the author and their readers to make sure its completely ready for full consumption. There must be a strong sense of trust and respect between these partners, and as an editor I felt this with Emily. I understood her vision, and I edited each draft and cheered her along, all the way to the finish line with complete faith that she would get there.

Emily Rennie has been an outstanding client and her work as an author is powerful. Her ability to draw upon music and film such as Bobby Darin and Elvis Presley (cleverly weaved within the novel) and series such as Wandavision who influenced characters such as Lila and the colourful (or should I say colourless) descriptions of the television set and her pink 1950esque cottage.

Emily’s unwavering drive and motivation not only as an author, but as a creator, performer and producer (even her dabble in stand up comedy) consistently demonstrates her ambition and the love she has for her work.

Congratulations Emilly Rennie, it has has been a pleasure working with you and best of luck on your debut novel, Please Stand By.
